    • Zanu PF plan to reverse parliamentary majority by jailing MDC MPs

The MDC has unearthed a plot by the Attorney General’s office and members of the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) to secure convictions against MDC MPs in a bid to reverse the MDC majority in Parliament.

Deputy Attorney General, Johannes Tomana is leading the plot in which the Zanu PF regime is planning to secure convictions and lay more trumped-up charges against MDC MPs to reverse our majority in Parliament.

This week five MDC MPs were arrested in Harare during the opening of the 7th Parliament of Zimbabwe.

Four of them, Pearson Mungofa, the MP for Highfield East, Eliah Jembere, Epworth; Bednock Nyaude, Bindura South and Trevor Saruwaka, Mutasa Central are still in police custody. They were denied bail.

Hon Nyaude was granted bail by a Bindura magistrate but the State has appealed.

    • Police Seize Zimbabwe Opposition Party members

Police have arrested multiple Opposition lawmakers Wednesday (Aug 27), right after the President announced he would include them in his cabinet.

Police said the arrests were not politically motivated, but were related to violence in the run up to the run-off election for President earlier this summer.

The Movement for Democratic Change, however, said police made the arrests to reduce the numbers of opposition lawmakers in parliament.

Power-sharing talks between ZANU-PF and the opposition -- mediated by South African leader Thabo Mbeki -- are scheduled to resume this week.

    • What will the MDC pull-out mean for Zimbabwe?

      Pulled from the BBC Website:

"The Zimbabwean opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai has taken refuge in its embassy in the capital Harare, hours after he pulled out of the presidential run-off. What do the latest development mean for Zimbabwe?

The Dutch government says Mr Tsvangirai spent the night at the embassy because of fears for his safety and was welcome to stay longer.

But it says the leader of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change has not sought asylum.

Shortly before the Dutch announcement, Zimbabwean police raided the MDC headquarters in Harare.

President Mugabe has accused the MDC of lying about political violence ahead of the presidential run-off.

Are you in Zimbabwe? How do you respond to the latest development? Is the MDC right to pull out of the election race? How should the world react?"

    • Zimbabwe armed men threaten rally

Hundreds of supporters of Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe have occupied a stadium in the capital, Harare, where the opposition had planned a key rally.

Other Zanu-PF men, armed with clubs, are patrolling the streets leading to the Glamis stadium, witnesses say.

A spokesman for the Movement for Democratic Change said it still planned to go ahead with the rally. MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai was due to attend.

    • Mugabe warns Zimbabwe's voters: 'How can a pen fight a gun?'

Mugabe gave a chilling warning to his people yesterday asking Zimbabwe's voters: 'How can a pen fight a gun?'. Indicating he would refuse to cede power even if he loses the June 27th Presidential run-off. State controlled media reported these comments just a day after he threatened to 'go to war' to win the election.

      http://current.com/items/89025145_mugabe_if_i_lose_the_...

Violence has taken a sharp upturn in recent weeks moving from beatings and torture to mutilation and killing. Bizarrely Mugabe moved to arrest opposition leaders for inciting the violence.

Britain is preparing a whole host of measures that will be used against Mugabe if he rigs the elections. Including a call for its neighbours to cut off the countries power supply and create an economic blockade.

One diplomat said: 'One way or another, this summer is likely to mark the endgame for Robert Mugabe.'

I hope too many lives are not lost in the process.

    • Zimbabwe: Recounting Votes, Timeline, Missing Arms Shipment

Robert Mugabe perpetrates acts of terrorism against his own people. He has ordered that political opponents be jailed, assaulted, and killed.

It is estimated that over 4 million people have fled Zimbabwe and thousands of others are displaced inside Zimbabwe. This means 25% of Zimbabwe's population has left the country. Additional estimates state 70% of Zimbabwe's workforce is now living outside Zimbabwe. This has caused a tremendous "brain drain".

If Zimbabwe had oil, gold, diamonds, or uranium the US would have stepped in. In fact, the US, UK, Russia, and India would be tripping over each other as they all rush to provide help first.

After people discovered the atrocities of the Nazis the world said "never again". Yet it continues to happen - Rwanda, Serbia, Sudan, Iraq, and now Zimbabwe.

      When is enough, enough?

    • Thousands flee Robert Mugabe's terror mobs

      By Peta Thornycroft in Harare
      Last Updated: 12:52am BST 21/04/2008

Mobs loyal to President Robert Mugabe have forced about 3,000 refugees to flee their homes as a national terror campaign gathers pace across Zimbabwe.

Gangs from the ruling Zanu-PF party are ranging across rural Zimbabwe, hunting down supporters of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC). Their victims are fleeing into the capital, Harare, seeking safety and treatment.

Chingatayi Chimomo, 13, was separated from his parents when a Zanu-PF gang burned down his home, 120 miles north-east of Harare.

Chingatayi's father, John, was an MDC parliamentary candidate. "We ran into the forest and saw about 50 people burning our house down and taking all our things. My father was a candidate and he told us to run away and he ran away to another place," said the boy.

"It was midnight, a lot of people came and two had guns, and they put fire and broke everything and they took all our property. My father knows I am here but I don't know when we will go home. There is nothing left at home."

Chingatayi was safe yesterday in a Harare hospital. The staff will not send him away, even though wards are overflowing with victims of Mr Mugabe's thugs.

Nelson Chamisa, a spokesman for the MDC, said that about 3,000 people had been displaced. He said that four opposition supporters had been murdered since the election's first round on March 29 and hundreds assaulted.

    • Mugabe rival sets run-off terms amid increasing bullying

Amid claims of increasing bullying by government representatives, Morgan Tsvangirai's party has said it will only contest a run-off election if certain conditions are met. The main concerns sited were a secure environment and that the Southern African Development Community should observe the poll count.

The BBC linked article has some very interesting video embedded into the page, including first hand accounts of Zanu-PF representatives violently attacking opposition party activists. A very interesting overview in film.

    • Zimbabwe braced for more unrest

Zimbabwe police have spread across the country in anticipation of violence related to the opposition party's call for a general strike to protest the Zimbabwe presidential fiasco.

The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) has called for the "mass stay-in" to start immediately and continue until election results are released. The strike proposals come after yesterday's decision by the High Court to rule against the MDC's demand for the release of presidential election results.

With 4 out of 5 Zimbabweans unemployed, the effect that the strike will have on the economy is unknown. Police issued the warning that "those who breach the peace will be dealt with severely and firmly."

    • Zimbabwe to hold partial recount

The electoral commission in Zimbabwe have ordered a recount of ballots in 23 constituencies from the disputed elections of two weeks ago. According to the state-owned Sunday Mail newspaper, the recount will be held next Saturday, 19th April. With tensions rising over unreleased presidential poll results, the information minister said the army would not be used against the people. The opposition, Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), which says it won the presidency, has accused the government of the ruling Zanu-PF party of planning a campaign of intimidation.

The MDC has made it clear that it will not accept results based on recounts. A spokesman stated, "For us, that is accepting rigged results. They had custody of the ballot boxes for two weeks and they must have stuffed them with their votes". The MCD will on Tuesday challenge in court a partial election vote recount, its lawyer said today.

In the first sign of a political denouement to the Zimbabwe crisis, southern African leaders were early this morning putting together proposals for a unity government. But it remained unclear whether President Robert Mugabe had been consulted. The leaders of the 14-nation Southern African Development Community began talks early this morning with former Zimbabwean finance minister Simba Makoni. Moments before the leaders began talks with Makoni - who ran as an independent in the presidential elections and is believed to have finished third - the leader of the (MDC), Morgan Tsvangirai, left the talks abruptly with his delegation.
