Overweight smoker? Deafness could be on the horizon
As if heart failure isn't enough, according to research, there is a link between how much, and the duration somebody smokes for, and their chances of suffering deafness.
The cross-European study which focussed on a total of 4,083 men and women (aged between 53 and 67) also discovered a link between people with a higher BMI and those more susceptible to suffering hearing loss.

Smoking pot all day, every day might not be good for you
Ever wonder why the studies purporting to ‘prove’ marijuana’s health risks only recruit subjects who smoke pot 24 hours a day, seven days a week?
"Heavy marijuana use shrinks brain parts
via Reuters
Brain scans showed the hippocampus and amygdala were smaller in men who were heavy marijuana users compared to nonusers. … The men had smoked at least five marijuana cigarettes daily for on average 20 years."
The answer: If they didn’t, there wouldn’t be any purported risks left to write about.
I mean, seriously, imagine if these scientists had tried recruiting 15 subjects who drank at least five shots of vodka every day for 20 years? That is, if they could find 15 subjects who were still alive.
"Marijuana may up heart attack, stroke risk
via Reuters
Heavy marijuana use can boost blood levels of a particular protein, perhaps raising a person’s risk of a heart attack or stroke, U.S. government researchers said on Tuesday. …The marijuana users in the study averaged smoking 78 to 350 marijuana cigarettes per week."
The study did not look at whether the heavy marijuana users actually had heart disease.
So here we go again. Three-hundred and fifty joints per week?! Who are these people? And what’s with the caveat at the end of the story? If the purpose of the study is to assess whether there might be a link between ridiculously heavy pot use and heart disease, then why not, you know, look to see whether the subjects actually suffered from heart disease? (Likely answer: aside from the abnormal protein level, the patients were probably otherwise healthy.)
Bottom line: smoking pot all day, every day probably isn’t good for you (though I find it interesting that, even among the most prolific pot users, most of the herb’s purported dangers are either speculative or are only apparent on hyper-sensitive brain scans and multi-tiered neurocognitive tests). Fortunately, 99.9 percent of pot smokers don’t behave this way.
And no, it’s not prohibition that curbs their use habits; it’s the recognition that too much pot is not conducive to an otherwise healthy, responsible lifestyle (just as pounding five shots a day wouldn’t be conducive to, well, life).
So what lesson can be learned from the two studies above (aside from the fact that our government has no interest in investigating the health of ordinary cannabis consumers)? It’s that pot, like alcohol, is best consumed in moderation, and that pot prohibition — even when compared to the excessive use of the drug itself — still poses the greatest threat to health.

Sensor-plated dentures unlocks sound producing secrets of the tongue
An MIT research group has made some breakthroughs in artificial speech by using sensor-plated dentures to detect the necessary pressure that the tongue exerts in order to produce sound.
"Knowing the pressure the tongue exerts on the teeth during some speech, for example when making a "T" sound, has been particularly difficult, says Payan. "This closure of the vocal tract allows you to pronounce this consonant," he explains. "To model this, you have to be able to estimate the level of force applied by the tongue.""

The Blessings and the Problems of Earplugs
http://www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eardrum
As you know, I am a former graduated EMT and I end up to learn this on the hard way. Last Year I caught an ear infection that woke me up very quickly! The blessing of earplugs is that will help you abate sometimes and for certain noise from 45% to 65% of the noise pollution on the surroundings perimeter. However here goes the down turn. Earplugs must be sanitized and cleaned at all times before you insert it in your ears and in addition you can not use it for long periods of time and I explain why!
1. The limited time of hours of use is because our body produce wax daily through the ears and if there are a build up of wax and it drops back into your Chochlea and Eustachian Tube; it has knowing to cause tinnitus or as we common refer to it; "ring of the ears"
2. The second point it is sanitation as I did mentioned before!
3. Third it does not block all noise. As an example, the Electrical Muni Bus whistles still coming through even with the plugs tucked in. It is even worse because as the sound still invading our bodies we have that tendency to push the plugs in causing some pain in and around the ear cartilage. http://www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eardrum ... more -
Studying The Energy That Surrounds You
Sensorial Sciences helping people to improve their quality of life by understanding the toxic energy that surrounds them.
Helping healthy and disable individuals to understand the real reality behind sound energy. The vehicle manufactories industry and it engineers lobbied the Government giving decibels measurements that are bias and not appropriate for human life or living. It is time for them to correct that!
Many times I wrote that you can not assess an acoustic noise event from traffic based on decibels alone. Who understands decibels? Not the general population and there is where they fool you! To assess an event of noise use these items I am going to layout bellow:
1. Source of Noise
2. Type of Noise
3. Range of Noise
4. Decibels
5. Frequency
6. Landscape Architecture
7. The human factor
Please, tell Congress and our Local Government that you are tired of lies and you want the true about correcting the decibels that is appropriate for humans not a machine.
Here is the question to Engineers:
- How far a sound wave from the source of the noise emission is reaching out at the spectrum landscape? I know you can calculate that "range" in meters or feet and I am sure you know that --these items described above are the most important ones to assess an acoustic event, not decibels alone. Human Anatomy and Physiology
The study of human anatomy and physiology.
Is not a question to say that I have never done it, but observing people through history I sense how many take their body for granted. Man and Women takes their bodies for granted when they move or do the simple daily tasks of living. Because we just do it we do not stop to think about how marvelous is to walk, to talk, to see, to hear, to smell, to taste and so forth. Just think about that for a moment here, and follow me into this conversation, that will takes us to learn and understand our body physiological function, making life happening every day. We get cut and our skin repair itself miraculously, next day or two, nothing, sometimes not even a scar left behind and we are ready to go. Think about this!
