    • India Woman Burned To Death In Anti Christian Violence; Churches Destroyed

In another forum I was shocked at the Anti-Christian attitude from posters here in America even.

The title above was confirmed 8/28/2008 by BBC News.

In this century more Christians have died for their faith than in the other nearly 2k years combined. Let that sink in.

First of all. These people were only Jesus Freaks in the light that they died for their faith. Most did not own a bible, although that is a cherished and protected item that some, not many house churches have access to. They often share bibles among many. In most of the countries owning a Bible is punishable by death or indefinite imprisonment.

Now think about that for one moment. Death for owning a Bible. We cannot comprehend that here in the United States. This is common especially under "Islamic States" where Islam is the mandatory religion. And is also common in communist and we are seeing other governments doing the same.

These people lived in fear and knowing that death is often the consequence of believing in God and Jesus.

Did they go around making condescending comments? Hell no . Did they quietly worship in secret? Yes.

So before the politically correct brainwashes and blinds you to the plight of even Christians around the world...

Below are examples of stuff that happened THIS WEEK.

(sorry to take up space, but this is continued below.)

      · Rule states that competitors must be at least 16 years old
      · Documents produced which say gymnasts are underage

The success of the Chinese gymnasts in the final of the uneven bars apparatus - He Kexin won the gold medal and Yang Yilin the bronze – has stirred up the controversy of whether either gymnast has reached the qualifying age for international competition.

In 1997, to counter the increasing trend towards younger and younger gymnasts, the International Gymnastics Federation introduced a rule that competitors must be 16 in the year that the event is held.

Online documents, listed in a series of articles by The New York Times and followed up by Associated Press at the end of July and in August, call into question whether either of the gymnasts will reach their 16th birthday this year.

The documents relating to He include a page from the Chengdu Sports Bureau website from 2006, which gave her year of birth as 1994, a report in last November's Cities Games at Wuhan which gave her age then as 13, and a story in the China Daily newspaper in May this year, which gave her age as 14.

    • Chinese gymnasts too young to compete, web documents show

Just last week, questions were raised about the ages of two of Yang’s teammates. The New York Times reported that online records listed the gymnasts, He Kexin and Jiang Yuyuan, as being too young for this Olympics, perhaps as young as 14.

A national registry of gymnasts, which had been blocked online but was viewable through Google cache, listed He’s birthday as Jan. 1, 1994. That date was also listed for her on a registration for an intercity competition in Chengdu, China.

Jiang was born on Oct. 1, 1993 and is not yet 15, according to a listing of junior competitors from the Zhejiang Province sports administration. The list of athletes included national identification card numbers into which birth dates are embedded. Chinese officials have produced passports showing that He and Jiang are 16, making them old enough to compete at the Games.

    • Olimpiadi.

    • Veiled athletes challenge stereotypes in Beijing

BEIJING (Reuters) - The women in Roqaya Al Ghasara's home town in Bahrain are so proud of their pioneering Olympic sprinter that some of them got together to design and sew a set of tailor-made aerodynamic veils for her to run in.

Egyptian fencer Shaimaa El Gammal, a third-timer at the Olympics, will don Islamic headgear in Beijing for the first time. She says it is a sign she is come of age and she feels more empowered than ever.

This year's Games will see a sizable sprinkling of veiled athletes who are determined to avoid offending devout Muslims back home while showing skimpily dressed rivals there is nothing constricting about wearing "hijab".

    • Russian and Georgian Olympic shooters hug in Beijing as their countries fight

BEIJING, China (CNN) -- Sharpshooters from Russia and Georgia embraced Sunday after earning medals for their countries, which have been teetering on the brink of war since the Beijing Summer Olympics kicked off last week.

Russia's Natalia Paderina and Georgia's Nino Salukvadze hugged after winning Olympic silver and bronze medals, respectively, in the women's 10-meter air pistol competition.

The rivals kissed each other on the cheek after standing on the medal podium with China's Guo Wenjun, who won the gold medal in the event.

Waving flower bouquets high, the women smiled broadly at the audience.

"If the world were to draw any lessons from what I did, there would never be any wars," Salukvadze, 39, said afterward, according to media reports. The reports described the two as friends.

Georgia said it launched an operation in South Ossetia on Thursday after artillery fire from separatists killed 10 people. Russia, whose forces entered the republic Friday, accuses Georgia of plotting to wipe out Ossetians loyal to Russia. Georgia says Russia merely wants control of an oil pipeline.

Before Sunday, Paderina and Salukvadze had competed against each other several times, including at the 2004 Athens Summer Olympics; the 2005 European Championships in Tallinn, Estonia; the 2006 World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia; and the 2008 European Championships in Winterthur, Switzerland.

Salukvadze's bronze medal marked the first for her country in these Games.

She won a silver medal in the same event two decades ago at the Olympics in Seoul, South Korea, where she also took home a gold for the 25-meter pistol competition. Salukvadze was a member of the then-Soviet Union's 1988 Olympic shooting team.

Sunday's silver medal was first in an Olympics for Paderina, 32.

Despite reports that the Georgia Olympic delegation might return home, team spokesman Giorgi Tchanishvili said Sunday the athletes would stay and compete, according to The Associated Press.

Tchanishvili said that the competitors were ready to leave China if it would help the situation back home, but that Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili sent a message saying the athletes should remain at the Games, AP reported.

    • "FREEDOMSTICK" for Olympia (chaos computer club)

China has built a wall. These days, walls are not only built upon hills and fields, but in the internet as well. The people living in China live behind a wall, and only officially approved content may pass this wall. Since thousands of reporters are entering the middle kingdom these days to report about the Olympics and advance the international understanding, they too will have to pass this wall if they want to 'leave' the country via the internet, just like the Chinese people have to. As a matter of fact, an electronic wall is more holey than its physical counterpart. With only minor technical means and perhaps a little help from outside, everyone can create their own hole in this wall. Not only is censorship in the internet an unfair attempt to control information. It is destined to fail. We want to show that you don't have to live with the censorship. We want to help reporters and other interested parties to find their hole in the wall and to make use of the right of every human being, to have free access to information. China has built a wall. • American Micheal Phelps Wins Gold in 400 Meter

BEIJING -- The strains of the "Star-Spangled Banner" rang out over the Water Cube. President Bush, in the stands, waved his own American flag as the big one went up over the pool. And then, just as the song was getting to the part about the land of the free - the song stopped.

Atop the podium, Michael Phelps laughed.

It was the only glitch in a picture-perfect Sunday morning. Phelps not only won the 400-meter individual medley, the first gold medal in his historic quest for eight, one better than Mark Spitz in 1972, but in doing so smashing the world record.

Phelps touched in 4:03.84, nearly a second and a half faster than the 4:05.25 he himself had gone June 29 at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Omaha, Neb.

Laszlo Cseh of Hungary, the bronze medalist in the 400 IM in Athens in 2004, won silver Sunday, in 4:06.16.

American Ryan Lochte finished third in 4:08.09.

If it sounds obvious, it's no less true: it's not possible to win eight without winning the first, and Phelps said, "Having the first one off your back means the most."

Phelps won the 400 IM at the Athens Games as well. As in 2008, it was the first race on his agenda in 2004 - and he has said many times that the 400 IM victory in Athens was emotional.

    • Olympic Team Dismiss Smog Fears

Beijing's notorious pollution is not having a serious impact on athletes, according to British Olympic chiefs.

The Chinese capital was swathed in fog today after a spell of four clear days but no British competitors have felt the need to resort to wearing face masks which will be made available on request.

Instead the heat - routinely over 35 degrees - and humidity looks to be the more important factors.

Simon Clegg, the British Olympic Association's chef de mission, said: "It's not a concern to us. The expert advice that we are getting is that the situation continues to improve and the measures [shutting factories and limiting traffic] they put in place are still having a positive effect.

"We have had three or four days of outstanding blue-sky weather, and we do not think it is going to be an issue.

"No athletes here have been using face masks."

Clegg said the quality of the facilities in the Olympic Village surpassed anything from past Games.

He added: "There's a really positive atmosphere in the team, people are really excited. They have trained for their whole lives for this moment, and they are like coiled springs waiting to explode.

"The Village is fantastic, absolutely unbelievable - athletes have never had such good conditions as they have here in Beijing."

Ben Hawes, captain of the British men's hockey team, confirmed the smog had had no apparent effect during training today.

He said: "The smog did not seem to affect us when we trained this morning. We have no issues with that - it's mainly the heat and humidity.

"We have been training in Macau for a couple of weeks where it was hotter and more humid so hopefully by the time it comes to the matches we will be used to it.

"It has been 43 degrees (Celsius) pitchside which has been pretty tough but it gets easier every day. You can never cool down due to the humidity so we are using every technique we can to cool players when they come off the pitch, even ice blankets."

The British men famously won gold in 1988 - famous thanks to Barry Davies' unforgettable 'Where were the Germans... and frankly who cares' commentary - but the sport in Britain went backwards during the 1990s and early years of this decade.

Hawes insists that the situation has now changed again for the better.

He added: "Hockey in Britain has changed a lot but we are on an upward spiral now. We have beaten teams consistently that are ranked around us, it's just bridging that gap with the top four.

"We came ninth in Athens in 2004 which was pretty disappointing, so realistically we are aiming for top six this time - and hoping we can go beyond that."

    • Bejing Water Diversion Plan for Olympics Criticized

Plans to divert water to Beijing for the Olympic Games are shortsighted and will not ease the city's severe water crisis, a Canadian-based development policy group said in a study released recently.

Channeling water from neighboring provinces for an event billed as the “Green Olympics” is not a “fundamental solution,” Probe International said in its report, compiled by a team of experts in Beijing who requested anonymity. Such diversions are expensive and damage the environment, the report said.

“Whether diverting surface water or digging ever-deeper for groundwater, the underlying solution proposed is like trying to quench thirst by drinking poison,” the report said.
It didn't say why the compilers had requested anonymity, although the Olympics are a highly sensitive issue and authorities have responded harshly at times to perceived critics of the games.

Explosive growth combined with a persistent drought for over two decades have drawn down Beijing's water table, meaning the city of 17 million people is fast running out of water.

Beijing has drained surrounding regions in recent years to supply its growing water needs, depriving poor farmers of water and encouraging wasteful consumption, the report said.

      snip

Nearly all Olympic venues and the Olympic Village will use treated wastewater for heating systems and toilets. Recycled wastewater also will irrigate the Olympic Park, which will include a wooded area and an artificial lake. But the rowing venue, built on the dried-out Chaobai river bed in Beijing's Shunyi district, will use precious reservoir water. An eight-mile underground tunnel will divert water from the Wenyu River to keep the landscape green.
      ~~~~~~~~~
      Again, Bejing has one of the world's lowest per person available water resources, at one-thirtieth of the world average. And yet, they continue to divert water from poor farmers and others who need it to make artificial lakes and landscaping for the Olympics which they are hoping will bring them a lot of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$. I am already boycotting the Bejing Olympics because of China's involvement with Sudan regarding drilling oil wells on land cleared in the Darfur genocide. These selfish moves regarding water diversion make another reason why a boycott is necessary.
      This is simply wasteful at a time when water conservation is crucial to the people of China, especially considering 90% of their rivers are already polluted. The water they will provide in the toilets in Bejing to put on their "green" show will probably be cleaner than what their people have to drink now that is giving them cancer. Such is the power of the dollar bill, or yen.
