Spike Lee a Toronto
Spike Lee miracle film
New Spike Lee film has just come out, presented at Deauville film festival (France), yesterday. The title is “Miracle at St.Anna”, and it’s the story of “Buffalo soldiers”, Us army division formed by all afroamericans, trying to set Italy free, during the second world war. Definitely, Spike Lee aims to put afroamerican contribution in that war into evidence, differently from Clint Eastwood, whose film “Ietters from Iwo Jima” didn’t include any black soldier.
The film, produced by Spike Lee and Rai cinema ( Italian State Tv), is an opportunity to underline the important role of afroamerican soldiers in the second world war, although Hollywood has considered only one: Jim Brown ( former football champion) in “The dirty dozen”.

African-Americans at Iwo Jima, just for Clint Eastwood ...
I know that a lot of people think Spike Lee is being a racist. I believe he just wants us all to be more accurate in telling the history of America and make it more inclusive of the people who served and died for this country. That meaning representation of not only African Americans, latins, and Native Americans that served us courageously and lost their lives.

Spike Lee calls out Coens for disrespecting life
Spike was in Cannes promoting his new film, The Miracle at St. Anna, when he brought up his portrayal of death in the World War II drama:
"I always treat life and death with respect, but most people don't," Lee said at a news conference Tuesday. "Look, I love the Coen brothers; we all studied at NYU. But they treat life like a joke. Ha ha ha. A joke. It's like, 'Look how they killed that guy! Look how blood squirts out the side of his head!' I see things different than that."
I'm a fan of Lee's work, and I'm a fan of the Coens as well, and while they have been known to get a little slapsticky with death (I'm thinking the Wheezy Joe death scene in Intolerable Cruelty), the context of the film should really be called into perspective here.
Perhaps it's better to simply say that Spike tends to make films of a more serious note, where as the Coens dabble in comedy from time to time. I would love to discuss the treatment of life and death in a film like No Country for Old Men with Spike. That entire film was an allegory for death and mortality.
