    • Bloomberg Blasts Rumor About Obama

BOCA RATON, Fla. — Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, injecting himself directly into the presidential campaign, forcefully denounced on Friday what he called a “whisper campaign” linking Senator Barack Obama, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, to Islam.

Speaking before a crucial constituency in the coming election, Jewish voters, in the pivotal state of Florida, Mr. Bloomberg said that rumors of Mr. Obama secretly being a Muslim represent “wedge politics at its worst, and we have to reject it — loudly, clearly and unequivocally.”

“Let’s call those rumors what they are: lies,” said Mr. Bloomberg.

Mr. Bloomberg’s blunt denunciation of the rumors is likely to ingratiate the mayor with Mr. Obama’s campaign before the Democratic convention in August.

Mr. Bloomberg has suggested that he does not want the job of vice president and has said that he will not make a third-party run for the White House. .

    • Foreclosures rise 48% in May as repossessions double

"Banks repossessed twice as many homes in May and foreclosure filings rose 48 percent from a year ago as falling house prices trapped borrowers in mortgages they couldn't afford, RealtyTrac Inc. said in a report today.

One in every 483 U.S. households either lost the home to foreclosure, received a default notice or was warned of a pending auction, RealtyTrac said. That was the highest rate since the Irvine, California-based company began reporting in January 2005 and the 29th consecutive month of year-over-year increases. Nevada, California and Arizona posted the highest rates in the U.S. and New Jersey entered the top 10.

``It's definitely a different kind of market than what we got used to a couple years ago,'' said Devin Reiss, owner of Realty 500 Reiss Corp. in Las Vegas. ``We used to sell homes in a day. Now 50 percent of our sales are foreclosures".''

    • U.S. confidence falls

U.S. confidence in our economy fell more than expected due to high gas prices and a worsening real estate market. Optimism that the economy will get better soon is not a possibility at this moment, due to estimates that the slow economy should last well into Summer of 2009. • More than 200 economists reject Clinton/McCain gas-tax plans

One thing we do NOT want in the next President is someone who panders bullshit ideas like this to the public.

      From Bloomberg:

"More than 200 economists, including four Nobel prize winners, signed a letter rejecting proposals by presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and John McCain to offer a summertime gas-tax holiday.

Columbia University economist Joseph Stiglitz, former Congressional Budget Office Director Alice Rivlin and 2007 Nobel winner Roger Myerson are among those who signed the letter calling proposals to temporarily lift the tax a bad idea. Another is Richard Schmalensee of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, who was member of President George H.W. Bush's Council of Economic Advisers.

The moratorium would mostly benefit oil companies while increasing the federal budget deficit and reducing funding for the government highway maintenance trust fund, the economists said. "

Terry McAuliffe, Hillary's campaign chairman, says "Economists don't matter." Watch: http://bravenewfilms.org/blog/37834-mcauliffe-economist...
