    • Shock: music at festivals damages hearing

Now this probably won't come as a shock to you, but loud music at festivals damages your hearing!

The Royal National Institute for Deaf People (RNID) has conducted a survey of over 2000 festival-goers from Leeds, Reading, Glastonbury, Latitude and Rise festivals, asking them if they believed listening to loud music at festivals had affected their hearing.

Over 50% of festival revellers admitted that the music had damaged their hearing, with the majority (84%) saying they had 'experienced dullness of hearing or ringing' in their ears as well. 50% also admitted that they had experienced pain in their ears whilst listening to loud music but only just over 15% of them had gone about trying to protect their hearing.

The RNID has warned that if party-goers continue to listen to music at such volume, then they risk damaging their hearing permanently.

The RNID's campaign, Don't Lose the Music, aims to raise awareness of the dangers of listening to loud music.

    • Overweight smoker? Deafness could be on the horizon

As if heart failure isn't enough, according to research, there is a link between how much, and the duration somebody smokes for, and their chances of suffering deafness.

The cross-European study which focussed on a total of 4,083 men and women (aged between 53 and 67) also discovered a link between people with a higher BMI and those more susceptible to suffering hearing loss.

      Pardon?

    • Concept hearing aid makes your fingers do the work

If you're a little hard of hearing and a little self-conscious about looking good, some Chinese designers might have just made your day.

Kwang-seok Jeong, Min-hee Kim and Hyun-joong Kim have conceptualized a pair of rings, ingeniously tilled the 'Vibering' that "would be fitted with sound detection sensors that would alert the wearer about honking cars, their distance and position from the wearer through vibration."
