    • STOP PUPPY MILLS! ADOPT A RESCUE DOG

Thousands of dogs in puppy mills are treated as commodities, a way to make money as fast and as cheaply as possible. Chances are a puppy purchased in a pet shop or on line started out their life in a wire cage with only minimal food and water, and possibly freezing temps in winter and blazing hot barns in summer. Wire cages are stacked on top of each other, sometimes five or six high, and the urine and feces falls from the top to the lower cages. Often puppies are crushed of smothered because their litter mates pile on top of them to avoid the sharp wire cages from cutting their feet. Dogs are kept in crowded wire cages and forced to churn out more and more puppies until they die or are turned lose on the streets - or killed - because they are no longer 'profitable.'

Please, if you want a specific breed of dog, look for a rescue puppy through the groups associated with that breed. Never ever buy a puppy from a pet store or on-line. Visit the breeder if you want to buy a dog, insist on seeing the facilities where your puppy were bred. Don't fall for the 'papers' puppy mills offer, as most of them are fakes, printed out on their office computer.

Volunteer for your local animal rescue group or donate. I serve as a foster mom for puppies that my group rescues from auctions. Puppies are spayed or neutered when they become of age and are not allow to be bred. Many of the over-bred pups have numerous genetci defects and serious health issues due to overbreading.

Stop animal suffereing and spread the word about the horrors of puppy mills!

    • STOP The Suffering of Puppy Mills

Greed drives the owners of Puppy Mills who breed popular and rare breeds of dogs for profit. Some puppies are smothered when their siblings climb on top of them to escape the sharp wire of their cage and many others freeze to death in unheated garages, barns and outbuildings. Some crates of Moms and pups are stacked five high so the urine and feces rains down on the lower cages. Some breeds of puppies sell for up to $2000 or more in "Pet Stores", so the breeders don't are if some of the pups and moms die in the process. After a female is too old, sick or weak to breed she is dumpped or killed as she will no longer bring a profit. Due to over-breeding, puppies are often deformed or have hidden genetic problems that don't show up for several years.

Please DO NOT ever buy a 'pure breed' puppy from a Pet Store, find a reputable breeder and insist on seeing their facility before paying. Fake papers are easy to make, so don't be fooled. Better yet, find a rescue site for the breed of dog you are interested in, and save another dog from a horrible fate.
