Dallas will turn 30 at Southfork this fall
DALLAS, TX: The entire Ewing clan will return to Southfork, as the entire cast and crew of the popular 1980s nighttime soap Dallas are reuniting this fall for the show's 30th anniversary.
Dallas aired for thirteen seasons on CBS from 1978-1991, spawning the spin-off Knots Landing (1979-93) the next year, as it involves oil, power, greed, romance, deception, betrayal, and ambition within the Ewing family both professionally and personally on Southfork Ranch.
Larry Hagman told in an interview with the Dallas Morning News that he is excited about this reunion.
"I may not able to do the 40th" states the 76-year-old. "Thirty years is pretty good, and the show is still popular."
Hagman has been Dallas' front and center from day one. His character, J.R. Ewing, was America's Favorite Villain: the man viewers love to hate, the man viewers hate to love, and the man viewers both loved and hated. J.R. was ruthless, immoral, and irredeemable -- yet fans were rooting for him and saw him as an "hero".
Dallas' third season ended in the spring of 1980 with television's lovable scoundrel shot and near death. The finale was one of the most watched episodes in small-screen history, with fans all over the world wanting to know that summer the most important question: "Who Shot J.R.?"
That became a catchphrase and part of pop culture, with shows such as FOX's The Simpsons and CW's One Tree Hill, featuring villains loved and hated by both characters and viewers. Their lives were hanging by a thread in a cliffhanger season finale, and was resolved in the fall with their would-be killers revealed.
When Dallas began its fourth season in the fall of 1980, over 350 million people turned in to discovered that it was J.R.'s sister-in-law, Kristin (Mary Crosby), that shot him.
The ranch reunion, which will be on November 8, is open to the public that includes a Q&A session with the cast; tickets will go on sale a week from Friday at somewhere between $100 and $1,000.
Besides Hagman, both co-stars Patrick Duffy (Bobby Ewing) and Linda Gray (Sue Ellen) are also coming for the celebration, which promise to be a good time -- without no fights or alcohol.
"Larry and I will have a bowl of Mueslix and a small shot of prune juice and be in bed by 9 o'clock" Duffy said to the News. "We'll let people file by the bed and watch us go to sleep. I think we can hang with the best of them until midnight." Is there a curse on The Dark Knight?
JACKSON, MISS: Oscar-winning and prolific character actor Morgan Freeman was injured in a car accident in Tennessee yesterday. The 71-year-old was driving in a 1997 Nissan Maxima that belongs to Demaris Meyer of Memphis, which was left in a rural highway when the car flipped several times at the time of the accident, which took place at the home where Freeman and his wife owns.
Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesperson Sgt. Ben Williams has stated that neither drugs or alcohol play a part in the accident.
Freeman is the third actor from The Dark Knight, which is number-one for the third straight week, that made headlines. Batman himself Christian Bale was arrested several days ago for allegedly assualting his 61-year-old mother and his 40-year-old sister. The 34-year-old actor was recently released on bail, pending further investigation. But the most tragic of all is Heath Ledger, as the Australian-born actor died from an accidental overdose in January before the film opened. But his post-humous performance has been getting the most buzz, which some may lead to an Oscar nomination.
This hasn't been the first time that several actors from a popular movie and/or teleivision series have become top stories. For decades, there have been talks and rumors of a curse on The Exorcist, Poltergeist, and several Superman versions of film and television as well as several other films and TV shows, in which connects both the actors and franchise. These include:
The death of TV's Man of Steel George Reeves was ruled as a suicide in 1959 but theories have went on for years. The 2006 movie, Hollywoodland, depicted the actor's final days before his death.
In 1982, 22-year-old Dominque Dunne from the original Poltergeist died after being choked to death by boyfriend John Thomas Sweeney, who was later convicted and sent to six years in prison. However, he initially served a little over two years.
Actor Brandon Lee died during the shooting of his final film, The Crow, due to a malfunction from a prop gun in 1993 -- a year before the film opened. His father, martial-arts legend Bruce Lee, died mysteriously in 1973 at the age of 32 before Enter The Dragon opened in theatres worldwide.
Could the new Batman franchise be next?
Well, right now, Freeman is at Regional Memorial Center, where TMZ.com has stated that he has broken ribs and an injured knee, while Meyer has suffered bruises. According to Regional spokeswoman Kathy Stringer, Freeman's condition is serious, while Meyer's isn't available for comment at the moment. The 35th anniversary of Bruce Lee: The James Dean of Martial Arts
HONG KONG: Fans of legendary martial arts superstar Bruce Lee come together this weekend to commemorate the 35th anniversary of his death with an exhibit of movie posters, magazine covers, and books about him. Among the displays are letters written by Lee that chronicles his life in America, where he went to college and taught kung fu before moving his and his family back to Hong Kong, where he was raised.
Lee got his big break starring as Kato on The Green Hornet on ABC in 1966. Though the show lasted one season, it became a cult favorite among the Chinese overseas due to Lee. Over there, The Green Hornet was called The Kato Show.
Lee had a recurring role on ABC's Longstreet (1971-72), in which he played an instructor to an blind insurance investigator. Like his character, he also taught martial arts to actors like Steve McQueen and Chuck Norris, who later on starred with him as the antagonist in Return of the Dragon (1972).
It was confirmed that Lee was set on starring Kung Fu (1972-75), but the role of as a Shaolin priest in the 19th-century American West eventually went to David Carradine.
Danny Chan, who will be playing Lee in an new Chinese series, went to the opening exhibit today, which was organized by the Hong-Kong based Bruce Lee Club. He believes that this will give people an better understanding of Lee.
"A lot of people like Bruce Lee", Chan said, "but know very little about him."
Sadly, Bruce Lee died at the age of 32 from the swelling of his brain. Still, there have been discussions since then on how he died. One of the theories stated there's a curse on him and his family. His son, Brandon, died with strange results in 1993 while filming The Crow, which was released a year later. Like Bruce, Brandon gain a cult following after his death, as father and son are buried right beside to one another in Seattle.
There have been ongoing talks of an philanthropist who owns Lee's former two-story Hong Kong home petitioning to the government in turning it into a museum.
On film, Lee has portrayed Chinese characters that are champions of the working people and the oppressed -- fighting for honor and justice. Movies like Fists of Fury (1971), Enter The Dragon (1973) and The Chinese Connection (1972) certified his status as both an martial artist and an action hero.
Bruce Lee has paved the way of the martial-arts genre for Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Chuck Norris, Steven Seagal, Jean-Claude Van Damme and many more. HONG KONG: Fans of legendary martial arts superstar Bruce Lee come together this weekend to commemorate the 35th anniversary of his de... more -
