Spain beats Germany to win Euro 2008 title
Spain finally ended their 44-year wait for a trophy when Fernando Torres's exquisite first-half goal gave them a deserved 1-0 victory over Germany in a fast and furious Euro 2008 final on Sunday.
Spain, appearing in their first final since 1984 and seeking only their second trophy following their 1964 Euro success on home soil, were worthy winners as their crisp passing, wonderful technique and defensive discipline left Germany flailing.
Torres's goal after 33 minutes was also fit for a final as he showed all the speed, determination and quality of finish that summed up his team's whole campaign. Spain goes to UEFA 2008 semi-finals with 4-2 win aganist Italy
Spain beat Italy 4-2 on penalties to reach the semi-finals of Euro 2008 after a goalless draw in Vienna.
Marcos Senna came closest in normal time when Italy keeper Gianluigi Buffon fumbled his shot on to a post.
Spain keeper Iker Casillas was the hero in the shoot-out, saving from Daniele de Rossi and Antonio di Natale.

The Game ended in 3-0 for Holland. With Ruud van Nistelrooy scoring the first one, Wesley Sneijder the second, and Van Bronckhorst sealing the deal.

Euro 2008 kicks off
Football's European Championship will kick off in Switzerland on Saturday. For the 13th time Europe's finest will battle it out for the right to lift the competition's Henri Delaunay trophy.
But it was unlucky for some, with no representatives from Britain qualifying for the tournament, which is being co-hosted by Switzerland and Austria.
The Swiss will get the competition off and running when they meet Czech Republic in the opening game in Basel at 1700 BST on Saturday.
Over the next 23 days the tournament will cram in 31 games at eight different stadiums across the two countries.
Until 1980 only four teams competed in the European Championship finals, but since then it has grown into the third largest sporting event in the world after the World Cup and Olympic Games.
