Everyone is Making Fun of Poor Little McCain

Nothing seems to sit right about John McCain's announcement that he was temporarily suspending his campaign to help solve the economic crisis. For one, the shit hit the fan almost two weeks ago with the collapse of Lehman Brothers and Merrill Lynch. Sure things have gotten progressively worse, but nothing that drastic happened yesterday that made solving the crisis any more imminent. So excuse the world for reading between the lines and thinking this was a hastily planned political stunt that had more to do with trying to get out of the debate.

McCain himself has stated "The issue of economics is not something I’ve understood as well as I should." So why he thinks he's able to solve anything is beyond just about anyone. He did follow that statement with, “I’ve got Greenspan’s book." Um, maybe he should be calling for Greenspan to suspend his retirement, instead of calling for Obama to suspend his campaign as well.

Then there's the fact he was scheduled to appear on Letterman last night, but bailed at the last minute. If this wasn't some last minute monkey move you'd think he'd have canceled earlier in the week (because Lord knows the last thing we need is a president who makes hasty decisions with out properly planning). We're pretty much looking at a candidate who's willing to pull stunts at a flip of the hat to dominate the news cycle and get some attention while he's behind in the polls and facing a debate where he's expected to get sqaushed. Makes you wonder how he'll run the country. Hmmmmm?

Letterman was left with a whole lot of time, and used it pretty much to bash McCain. McCain told him that he had to fly back to Washington immediately, but then he found out McCain was around the corner being interviewed by Katie Couric. Why are you lying to a national comedy treasure John McCain? (Oh, ha, for anyone thinking "well, Letterman isn't a very important political show," -- where did John McCain first announce his Presidential campaign? Oh, on David Letterman).

Dave spent about nine minutes of the show drubbing McCain, all of it collected in the YouTube above. But Letterman wasn't the only one to use the opportunity for laughs.

The New Yorker, not known for its brevity or for its humor (yeah, those comics are hilarious), posted a short funny piece on their website.

Wonkette asks the hard questions: "Has there ever been another presidential campaign that consisted solely of dumb muppet stunts?"

This is just the tip of the ice berg, and there's lots more lolz to come. Congratulations John McCain, you've officially turned your campaign into a nationally joke.
