Norway fought the Nazis in WWII. Did you know they also fought the Russians?
More than a hundred Norwegian soldiers fleeing head over heels from superior Soviet forces died in Karelia June 25, 1944. The Norwegian SS-Skijager Battalion was annihilated. DNA tests may now give answers about their fates to their relatives.
About 6.000 Norwegians volunteered to fight against the Soviet Union with the German occupiers during the Second World War. After the war, survivors were sent to prison for collaborating with the enemy. However, more than 700 died on the Eastern Front. According to author and former resistance fighter Svein Blindheim, the encounter at the Kaprolat and Hasselmann hills in Northern Karelia was the worst fighting seen by any Norwegian unit. Norway, worlds third largest oil exporter, has gas pump prices sky high compared t...
Norwegians are now paying as much as NOK 14 a litre for the lowest grades of unleaded gasoline (just over USD 11 a gallon). While that reflects record high oil prices, Norway's traditionally high fuel taxes are also a major component.
The policy has always been aimed at discouraging use of private cars. The problem for many Norwegians, especially those living in rural areas, is that public transit isn't always a viable option. And many motorists who depend on their cars are feeling the strain. So is the transport industry, which has warned of bankruptcies because of its higher fuel costs.
That hasn't stopped Halvorsen, head of the Socialist Left party (SV), from rejecting recent pleas to lower fuel taxes because of high oil prices. Instead, she's moving forward with higher taxes that are expected to boost prices at the pump to at least NOK 15 per litre (USD 12 a gallon). Some market analysts think fuel prices will hit NOK 17 by year-end. Norwegians are now paying as much as NOK 14 a litre for the lowest grades of unleaded gasoline (just over USD 11 a gallon). GM cuts white collar jobs, light truck production.
"General Motors Corp. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Rick Wagoner is expected to announce this morning white-collar job cuts, changes to executive compensation and financial arrangements aimed at calming Wall Streets fears of a bankruptcy by the world's largest automaker.

GM announced plans at its annual meeting June 3 to close four North American truck plants by mid-2010, increase car production and consider selling its Hummer brand. Since then, the automaker has cut planned 2008 truck production by 170,000 units, added 47,000 units of car production and indefinitely frozen development of its next-generation large trucks." Water-fuel car unveiled in Japan
Japanese company Genepax presents its eco-friendly car that runs on nothing but water!!!
The car has an energy generator that extracts hydrogen from water that is poured into the car's tank. The generator then releases electrons that produce electric power to run the car. Genepax, the company that invented the technology, aims to collaborate with Japanese manufacturers to mass produce it.
I have heard about engines such as these; some are called HHO engines, or Brown Engines, they use a small electric charge to break down the water into Hydrogen and Oxygen; using the Hydrogen in an internal combustion engine or use the engine to power batteries which in turn the car uses for transport. These engines produce ZERO harmful emissions, only water in and water out.
Why hasn't this technology taken off? Why do countries wage war for control over finite energy resources?
Is this just being suppressed because it allows the vast majority of people to escape an ingenious mode of control?
Why do you think this kind of technology is all pervasive; may it be a hoax? Japanese company Genepax presents its eco-friendly car that runs on nothing but water!!! ... more -
EFF vows FISA/TelCo fight only beginning.
The EFF released a statement on Friday concerning the recent FISA update, specifically concerning the retroactive immunity for 4th Amendment violations committed by telephone companies that cooperated with the Bush Administration during and before 9/11.
"Our long war against warrantless wiretapping has only just begun, and we will not stop until we get that legal ruling we’ve been fighting for. Wednesday we only lost a battle, not the war, and EFF’s struggle to hold the White House and the telecoms accountable for their lawbreaking will continue on multiple fronts — starting with a constitutional challenge to the immunity provisions...
While duking it out over immunity in the courts, EFF will also continue its fight in Washington, working in the next session of Congress — a Congress likely to be much different in its composition than today’s, and working with a different president — to wipe the stain of the FAA’s immunity provisions off the books." General Motors blames its lagging hybrid tech on public.
Head of GM Rick Wagoner, speaking at an industry conference in Dallas commented, "We have to build cars and trucks that people want to buy," in response to why GM's hybrid lineup is lagging behind.
Autoblog continues, "..your company also has to have at least a modicum of foresight in order to be successful in the tough American market these days. For instance, Toyota is just now reaping the benefits of its hybrid electric vehicles, despite the fact that the automaker has been building them since 1997. Did Toyota know something that GM didn't? Not really". Head of GM Rick Wagoner, speaking at an industry conference in Dallas commented, "We have to build cars and trucks that people wa... more -
Afghan official claims U.S. airstrike kills 47 civilians
Deputy upper house speaker Burhanullah Shinwari is heading an investigation into Sunday's U.S. air strike in Afghanistan, which he claims killed 47 civilians on their way to a wedding. So far the U.S. has denied that any civilians were in the area during the strike. "I reject the coalition statement saying that all those killed were militants," Shinwari tells Reuters on Friday. Adding, "By carrying out such attacks, the Americans are creating a gap between the (Afghan) government and the people." The strike is the second in a week to have killed Afghan civilians, and adds to the over 700 civilian deaths from operations and conflict in Afghanistan this year.
