I think your reasoning applies more to Iraq than Afghanistan. Iraq is an oil rich country, but as far as I know Afghanistan has never been known for its oil. Poppy fields, yes,but not oil.

To a certain extent I agree with you, but I think there is much more going on than just big oil and corporations.
