Meet Sylma – she’s following her dreams of traveling around the world and using her art to help her get there.
A lot of times, we’re told that there’s no jobs in art [...] And I think that me making the art is a nice example for my students to see that you can actually live off this.
What goal are you getting after?
“The time that I have off as a teacher, I try to use it as much as I can to explore, get to know new people, eat a lot of new things, walk around, and see art. And so right now I'm currently saving to be able to go to Greece and Thailand.”
How are you getting there?
“Last year, I started selling my prints and I realized that people really liked them. And so I started using that money to be able to go on my trips.”
What do you love about printmaking?
“It's like imaginary architecture. I imagine these dream houses, how they will look when you walk inside. How would they feel? So it's like I'm a pretend architect.”
How is Current helping you chase those goals?
“It's easy to see your goal, how much you have saved, and it makes it feel attainable.”
“I think it's important for people not to forget that there's other ways for you to feel happy that isn’t only your daily routine. It's important for you to go out there and do other things and meet new people and try new things, and do the little things that make you happy, 'cause at the end of the day, you don't know how that's gonna get you to other places.”
